We are a coalition comprising collectives of the Mexican diaspora in Europe, trade unions, media outlets, diverse European organizations, and individuals advocating for—among other causes—social justice, human rights, migration, and the defense of land and territory.
Our objectives are multifaceted:
1. Create spaces to address the issue of enforced disappearance, which receives very little visibility and representation in Europe. Furthermore, to bring public scrutiny to the crisis of enforced disappearances in Mexico, where more than 134,000 individuals are officially registered as disappeared.
2. Amplify awareness through local and grassroots media outlets regarding the critical crisis of enforced disappearances in Mexico, taking into consideration that the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED) invoked Article 34 and escalated the crisis in Mexico to the General Assembly in April 2026, citing crimes against humanity.
3. Facilitate meetings with organizations, collectives, and institutions actively engaged at various levels, in order to listen, share experiences, and coordinate joint, multidimensional actions around the issue of enforced disappearances.
4. Foremost and primary objective: To coordinate the advocacy tour of Alicia de los Ríos Merino across 5 European countries, from October 9 to November 6, 2026.
Alicia de los Ríos Merino is a prominent Mexican historian and human rights lawyer specializing in oral history and strategic litigation concerning grave human rights violations, specifically enforced disappearance. She is also a searching daughter (hija buscadora) who has dedicated her life and expertise to finding her mother of the same name—an activist with the Liga Comunista 23 de Septiembre and victim of enforced disappearance by the Mexican State in 1978.
In August 2026, she achieved a landmark legal precedent by securing an unprecedented constitutional ruling (amparo) compelling the Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) to declassify and grant access to its secret, previously undisclosed archives on armed counterinsurgency, dealing a significant blow to decades of military impunity.
We invite anyone who wishes to join this collective effort to reach out to us. You can contact the local chapter of your choice directly or write to the email address listed on this page. Every contribution counts!
